What is the mission of the GEP?
Gleneayre Equestrian Program (GEP) helps children and teens from the 5th to 13th grades who are experiencing challenges in their lives, but lack the vital support network needed to overcome these obstacles. These challenges could be, but are not limited to: financial, emotional, social, academic, or organizational. GEP strives to help young people reach their highest potential and overcome their personal circumstances, through a love of horses.

What is a typical week like in the GEP?
Participants are required to work at Gleneayre Farm doing basic barn chores, 2 days per week (2 hours each day) after school and ½ day (7:30am–11:30am) on the weekends. They are also required to groom/ride their horse 4 days per week. Therefore, a participant might be at the Farm for as little as 4 days or as many as 6 days per week. During summer school break, the 2 days after school are changed to 2 full days (7:30am–3:30pm), weekends remains the same.

Barn chores include everything from mucking stalls and cleaning tackrooms to riding/grooming other horses on the farm. All chores have been designed to educate program members on every aspect of barn management, quality horsemanship and basic veterinary care. Potential candidates should be aware that barn work is physically demanding and still continues during inclement weather. [back to top]

Who is eligible?
GEP is for boys and girls from 5th to 13th grades. Potential candidates should have a basic knowledge of horses and equine standards and a strong love for horses. Each potential member will be interviewed to determine their level of need by candidate. [back to top]

How long can one be in the program?
Children and teens are welcome too stay until the 13th grade or for up to 9 years, depending on when they started. [back to top]

What are the costs associated with the program?
All tack and equipment can be provided by the GEP on an as needed basis.

Members are asked to contribute to the cost of maintaining a horse. Because these costs can be rather exorbitant, Bob and Ellen Healey have created a scholarship account to subsidize the expenses. Members’ fees are determined based on confidential, financial forms collected through Private School Aid Service (PSAS). This is a third party organization that collects and analyzes your financial data; in turn suggesting to us a monthly fee that you should be comfortable with. You will be required to fill out an application once you have been pre–screen by GEP staff. [back to top]
